You are correct. According to an early plat map dating from about 1910, of Washington Township, there are two parcels listed to a Clara B. Whitney. If you look at Washington Township, section 18 is on the west side bordering Keokuk Township. You will notice that the Des Moines River enters Washington Tsp. in section 18. Clara's land is bordered on the south by the river and to the north by the railroad tracks for approximately a mile. Clara's second smaller parcel is north of the first parcel and considerably smaller. If you send me an e-mail, I can send you a picture from the plat map. Because of the odd boundaries of the parcels it is difficult to determine the amount of acres they contain.
