So now we have another story to add to the already clouded situation. We have been told the records are in Ottumwa, Utah, the old jail house in Ottumwa, and now Colorado. All by persons who supposedly have knowledge of the copying process. I understand from others that the process of preparing the records to be copied takes time as they all must be laid out flat and now we are also told to be indexed. I also can understand this process takes some time to accomplish. What I do not understand is why no one seems to really be able to say with accuracy and certainty where the records are at this time and, even more important, what will happen to the actual records once the copying process is completed. Having copies of the film available at specific places is fine but what is being done to preserve the wonderful actual records themselves. Are they going to be returned to somewhere in Iowa for safe keeping? Are they going to be sold to the highest bidder; Ancestry.com? Are they going to be destroyed?
I'm sorry, I still think someone needs to be held accountable to be able to tell us where the records are, when they will be returned and why they were allowed to be removed from public access for such a long period of time.
As you can see, I am still not satisfied that we have answers to any of the questions that have been raised. It seems everytime a question is raised to a different person the answers change.
