Grace,
There would be almost zero chance that your Mahlon is buried in or near Eddyville. Based on the 1880 census, Mahlon and Sarah Ann Wright were living in Competine township. Competine township is located in the northeast corner of Wapello county. Eddyville is located in the northwest corner.
I might suggest that they are most likely buried in the cemetery at the old Baptist church graveyard in Marysville in Competine township. I base that on the following exerpts from the Wapello County History book dated 1986:
"Twelve former members of the Martinsburg and Fremont Baptist churches thought it best to organize a new and separate society in this locality (Competine township -my note). Therefore, a meeting was called for this purpose on Saturday, April 26, 1866.
The charter members were....Mahlon Wright, Sarah Ann Wright, Sarah Wright....(others listed)
Forest Home was adopted as the name.....The first business meeting was held in the Competine Center school house. A committee was appointed to look into the possibility of building a church.
Marysville was decided on for the location to build. Lot No. 5 was bought from Mahlon and Sarah Ann Wright for $5.00 and Lot No. 12 was bought from William and Mary Decker for $5.00.
The church was 26 by 45 feet and cost $1,263.40. The house was opened for worship the first Sabbath in June, 1867. In November, 1867, a committee was appointed to see about land for a graveyard. The land (one acre) was bought from Mahlon and Sarah Ann Wright for $1.00....
In 1876 the name was changed to the First Baptist Church of Competine...The last week in October, 1891 the chuch burned to the ground...A new church was built and dedicated December 11, 1893."
The church building was moved to Farson in 1908, but I assume that the original graveyard still exists in some form.
