Thanks everyone for your help.

The Thomas you found in 1880 is only 34 yrs old. My Thomas was 42 in the 1860 census, Wapello Co., and Mary was 40. This is probably the son of Thomas and Mary from the 1860 census.

Mary COOPER did end up in Oregon in 1880. Same county as above. I had found Mary there by searching for her son, Jackson COOPER,who was age 2 in the 1860 census. Thomas is not listed in the household.

Mary COOPER 63 IN VA KY
Jackson COOPER Son 22 IA Farmer IN IN
Hester MILLER Dau 18 MO --- ---

I haven't figured out how Hester Miller entered the picture!
