EMMA S. MADAMS was born in Bedfordshire, England, Oct. 17, 1831, and died at the home of her daughter in Ottumwa,Iowa Feb. 14, 1908, aged 76 years and 4 months. She was married at Flettae, England, in 1849, to THOMAS BASS and came to America in 1851, locating in Danville, Illinois, where she resided until 1888, at which time she came to Ottumwa,Iowa, where she lived until her death. To the first union 10 children were born, all of whom preceded her in death, with the exception of three daughters, MRS. E. F. JOHNSON of Ottumwa,Iowa, MRS. JESSE SWAN of Eddyville,Iowa and MRS. T.J. SNYDER of Danville, Illinois. Her husband departed this life in September, 1871, and she was again married in 1872 to ALBERT LHOST, who still survives her, together with one daughter MRS. J.E. WESTBROOKE of this city. She united with the Episcopal Church in England at an early age. Besided the daughter and husband she leaves to mourn her loss 33 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. E. F. Johnson, conducted by F.G. Davies, the following grandsons acting as pallbearers: C. B. JOHNSON, CCLAUDE JOHNSON, CHARLES BASS, THOMAS SWAN, FRED LAREW and JOHN J. SNYDER. Interment in the Ottumwa Cemetery. Ottumwa Courier Feb. 18, 1908
