Frederick Eugene Cobler, 74, of Ottumwa, died of complications of diabetes Monday at Ottumwa Regional Health Center there. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with burial at McCormick Cemetery in Highland Center.

Mr. Cobler lived in Ottumwa all his life. He was a farmer and cattleman, a member of Trinity Church of the Nazerene, Iowa Cattlemen's Association, vice president of State Royal Youth, a 4-H president, and had served on the Iowa State University advisory board, Ottumwa school board, Indian Hills Community College advisory committee and Wapello County Extension Council. He enjoyed showing cattle and was the 1991 Southwest Iowa Farmer of the year.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, seven sons, Tony of Fremont and David, Mark, Chris, Joe, Brent and Brian, all of Ottumwa; and 17 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to his church, Franklin Graham Ministries or the American Diabetes Association.
