BATAVIA - Drexel Major, 70 died at Ottumwa Hospital at 1:45 a.m. Sunday. Death was sudden and unexpected.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia with the Rev. Otis Parker in charge. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.
Born May 31, 1908 in Monroe County, he was the son of Lewis and Lona Kephart Major. He had formerly lived in Ottumwa and farmed in the Batavia community.
He was married to Irene Parcel, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by a daughter and a son.
Surviving are four daughters, Mary Chidester of Ottumwa, Phyllis Kitchen and Janice Droz, both of Batavia, and Shirley Rogenburger of Fairfield; a son, Drexel Major Jr., of Batavia. Also 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; his mother of Ottumwa; four brothers, Gilbert and Kenneth of Eldon, John of San Antonio, Texas, and Albert of Ottumwa.
Other survivors are five sisters, Garnett Orman, Maude Renfrew, Ercel Riedel and Thelma Smith, all of Ottumwa, and Audrey Wilkinson of Eldon.
