Obituary From “Ottumwa Daily Courier,” Wednesday, March 28, 1956, Page 29:
Mrs. Anna Ellis, 69 [sic], of 226 West Main street, died at her home at 10 a.m. today.
Coroner Gordon Traul said death was attributed to a heart attack. She had not been well for several weeks.
Born October 23, 1886 [sic - birth year on gravestone is 1884], in Wapello county, she had lived here all her life. Her parents were Michael and Julia Coughlin.
Her husband was William H. Ellis, who died in 1944. Two brothers and five sisters also preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter Mrs. Wade Johnson of Ottumwa, a brother Pat Coughlin and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Chapman and Mrs. Julia Dial, all of route 4.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church.
The body is at the Traul funeral home. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

“Ellis Services,” From “Ottumwa Daily Courier,” Thursday, March 29, 1956, Page 30:Funeral services for Mrs. Anna C. Ellis, 71, of 226 West Main street, who died at her home Wednesday morning, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Traul funeral home. The Rev. John Hynes, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic church, will be in charge. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.
Members of St. Mary’s parish and friends will meet Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Traul funeral home to recite the Rosary.
Pallbearers will be Mike Chapman, Robert Staton, Joe Richmond, Lester Morrill, Roy Davis and Nick Wagner.
A requiem high mass for Mrs. Ellis will be offered at St. Mary’s Catholic church following Holy Week. A funeral mass may not be offered in a Catholic church on Thursday, Friday or Saturday of Holy Week.
