Fatal Duel Near Eldon
Ambrose Daugherty and George Huffman, farmers who lived 3 miles south of Eldon, engaged in an extempore duel with pistols, and as a consequence both were fatally wounded. They were attending a county lyceum, and while driving home both insisted on driving over the same bridge first. Revolvers were drawn. Daugherty was shot in the groin and Huffman through the lungs. The former was married and the latter boy of fifteen.
