Southern Iowa Pioneer Is Dead
Mrs. Eliza Jane Taylor, 93, pioneer resident of southern Iowa, died at 5:15 a.m. today at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moyer, 413 Minnesota street. She was the daughter of Isaiah and Catherine Lewis and was born in Wayne county, Indiana, October 25, 1850. They moved to Corydon in a covered wagon when she was 5 years old later going to Blakesburg. After moving to Denver, she was married to Christopher Anderson in 1885 who died in 1894. The following year she was married to William Taylor in Ottumwa who preceded her death in 1915. She was a member of the Willard Street Methodist church. Besides Mrs. Moyer, she is survived by two sons, William L. Anderson, Rockford, Illinois, and Gay M. Anderson, Ottumwa; a daughter Mrs. Carl Chisman, Ottumwa; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Josephine Canfield, Renton, Washington, and a brother, Rolla Lewis of Blakesburg route 2. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. C.R. Reed of the Willard Street Methodist Church. Burial will be in Chisman cemetery.
