Joseph H. Weeks, 89, resident of Ottumwa for more than 65 years, died at 2:10 p.m. Thursday at his home 532 Center avenue. He was born December 17, 1854, at Rushville, Illinois, the son of Byron R. and Ellen Jane Weeks. Survivors include his wife, Mattie A. Weeks; four sons, Claude R. Weeks, Corsicana, Texas, S. Earl and William M. Weeks, both of Ottumwa and J. Mayo Weeks, Lansdown, Pennsylvania; a sister, Mrs. Carrie Smith, Chicago, and a brother Silas S. Weeks, New York. He was a member of the Mt. Zion A.M.E. church, and of the Golden Star lodge, No. 4, A.F.&A.M. The body was removed to the Lester Jay funeral home pending completion of arrangements.
Funeral services for Joseph H. Weeks, who died Thursday afternoon, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday from the A.M.E. church in charge of the Rev. Henry J. Parker, assisted by the Rev. William M. Shaw, pastor of the Second Baptist church. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery with Masonic services at the grave. Pallbearers will be fellow members of Golden Star lodge No. 4 A.F. and A.M.
