George W. Rater, 79, of 532 North Sheridan avenue, died Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at his home. He was born July 20, 1864, in Davis county. He had farmed all his life until he retired two years ago and moved to Ottumwa. He is survived by his wife, Caroline. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the home and at 9:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic church, where a requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rev. T.C. Donohoe. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Members of St. Patrick’s Catholic church will meet tonight at 8 o’clock at the Rater home to recite the rosary. The body will be removed from the Vaughan funeral chapel to the Rater home tonight at 5 p.m.
