Herman H. Schmidt, 63, died at 7:25 p.m. Thursday of a heart attack at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John J. Crimmins of route 6. He was born November 24, 1879, in Ottumwa and was a retired baggageman for the Illinois Central railroad at Chicago, where he served for 23 years. He retired three years ago and came to Ottumwa to make his home. He is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Crimmins, Miss Marjorie Schmidt, of Chicago and Mrs. Donald P. Zochert of Maywood. Illinois. He is also survived the following brother and sisters; Gary Schmidt, Spokane Washington, Frank Schmidt, Ben Schmidt, Joe Schmidt, Henry Schmidt, Paul Schmidt, Mrs. Ivan Millard and the Misses Elizabeth and Doris Schmidt all of Ottumwa. Two grandchildren, Donald and Dorothy Ann Zochert of Maywood also survive. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday from the Vaughan funeral chapel and at 9 o’clock from St. Patrick’s Catholic church. A requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rev. T.C. Donohoe and burial will be made in Calvary cemetery. Members of St. Patrick’s parish will meet at 8 o’clock Monday evening at the Vaughan funeral chapel to recite the rosary.
