Otha W. Kinnear, 64, long-time employee of the Dain Manufacturing Co. and a Spanish American war veteran, died suddenly at his home, 162 North Willard street, at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday of a heart attack. The son of James M. and Mary A. Kinnear, he was born February 7, 1879, in Carroll; county, Missouri and came to Ottumwa in October of 1906. He had been employed by the Dain company since that firm operated in Carrollton, Missouri. He was a private in Co. F. 35th U.S. Volunteer Infantry, enrolled at Carrollton, August 17, 1899, and was mustered out of the service February 12, 1901, at San Francisco, California. He was a member of the Joseph Hayes camp. S.A.W. Veterans, the Finely Avenue Baptist church, where he was a deacon, and of the Modern Woodmen lodge, No. 1740. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; two daughters, Dorothy Kinnear, New York, and Mrs. Earl Dale, Humeston; two sons Winfrey, Ottumwa and Staff Sergeant Otha Kinnear Jr. Kirtland Field, New Mexico; a brother D.H. Kinnear, Carrollton, Missouri, and a granddaughter, Judith Carol Kinnear, Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by two sisters. The body was removed to the Johnson funeral chapel pending completion of funeral arrangements.
Funeral services for Otha W. Kinnear, who died Thursday at his home at 162 North Willard street, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday from the Finley Avenue Baptist church in charge of the Rev. Thurman Bowen, assisted by the Rev. John Hastie. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. The casket will be taken to the home this afternoon and will be removed to the church at 1 p.m. Sunday where it will be closed at the beginning of the service. Military services will be conducted at the grave. The pallbearers will be: Active, Bernard Dye, Fred Norman, Fred Jefferson, Edward Lasser, Carl Maring and John Shipley, Jr.; honorary O.B. Lee, Sam Griggs, Irvin Palmer, John Smith, Clyde McClure and Clifford Agee.
