George William Speirs, 83, died at his home 208 North Ransom street, at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. He had lived in or near Ottumwa practically his entire life. He was the son of Ezra and Abigail Speirs and was born near Hedrick, March 25, 1860. He was a member of the Finley Avenue Baptist church. Mr. Speirs’ first wife, Jennie preceded him in death in 1926. One son, Frank, also preceded him in death in 1918. Surviving are his second wife, Agnes; two daughters, Mrs. C.M. McClung, Hedrick, and Mrs. Phillip Sauer, Fairfield; two sons, W.A. Speirs, Hanover, Illinois and Rex Speirs, Davenport; 10 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Two brothers, J.C. Speirs, Hedrick, and J.A. Speirs, Maryville, Missouri also survive. Funeral services will be held at the Johnson funeral chapel at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and at the Finley Avenue Baptist church 2 p.m. in charge of the Rev. Thurman Bowen and the Rev. John Hastie. Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery near Martinsburg.
