W.A. Barnes Dies; Former Railroader
W. A. Barnes, 70, a traveling engineer for the Burlington railroad, died at 10:50 p.m. Monday at his home, 614 North Wapello street. He had been in ill health for some time. He was the son of William A. and Lucy Barnes and was born November 7, 1872, in Canton, Illinois. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for 29 years. After leaving the railroad, he was in business for himself here. Survivors include his wife, Bernice, a daughter, Mrs. Doris Espy, Ottumwa, a son A.H. Barnes, Ottumwa, and a grandson Gordon Espy, Ottumwa. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. Herbert A. Keck, D.D. of the First Methodist church. Burial will be in Linwood cemetery, Galesburg, Illinois. The family requests no flowers be sent.
