William Hartley, 91, a well-known coal miner in this section from a great many years ago, died at 8:20 a. m. Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Prosser of 220 North Birch street. He was born January 5, 1852, near Chillicothe the son of Phillip and Ann Hartley. He has lived his entire life in Wapello county and for the past 35 years he lived in Ottumwa. He was a member of Gospel Hall and of local mine workers union. He is survived by the following six children: Lloyd Hartley, Newton; Mrs. Edna Smith, Davenport; Albert Hartley, Edward Hartley, Mrs. Mina Collett and Mrs. Prosser, all of Ottumwa. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was married in August of 1885 to Mary Lucinda Abraham who preceded him in death on July 21, 1934. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of A.O. Smith. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.
