Catholic Sister For 52 Years Dies
Sister Mary Gabriel, a member of the Order of the Sisters of Humility of Mary for 52 years, died at 1:45 a.m. today at the St. Josephs hospital after and illness of more that a year. She was the daughter of Daniel and Catherine Hurley and was born at Niagara Falls, New York, June 28, 1863. She later moved to Mt. Pleasant and entered the local religious order June 21, 1893. She was in the housekeeping section at St. Ambrose college of Davenport, for a number of years, retiring about 10 years ago. Only nieces and nephews survive. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Ottumwa Heights college chapel when the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh V.F. will celebrate a requiem solemn high mass assisted by the Rev. J.H. Courtney, deacon, the Rev. Thomas Donohoe, sub deacon, and the Rev. James Welch, Mt. Pleasant, as master of ceremonies. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Will Hannon, Muscatine, will deliver the sermon. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive cemetery on the college grounds.
