Mrs. Claude A. Shepherd, died at 2:30 a.m. today at her home, 229 South Ransom street, after lingering illness caused by an automobile accident almost five years ago. She was 58 years old and was born near Melrose the daughter of Edward and Anna Killion who preceded her in death. She was married November 24, 1909 to Claude A. Shepard at the Sacred Heart Catholic church here. She was a member of the Hibernians, St. Patrick’s parish and the Altar and Rosary society. She is survived by her husband, Claude A. Shepherd; one daughter, Sister Mary Paulita of Dunlap; three sons, the Rev. Edward J. Shepherd, assistant pastor of St. Paul’s rectory at Burlington. Paul Shepherd at home and Corporal Robert Shepherd, who is stationed at Camp White, Oregon. She is also survived by one brother and two sisters, Mrs. Ed Winniger of Chicago, Miss Gertrude Killion and James Killion, both of Los Angeles. The body is at the Moroney funeral home, pending the completion of funeral arrangements, though it will be taken to the family residence later.
Funeral services for Mrs. Claude A. Shepherd, who died early Thursday, will be held Monday morning. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. from the residence at 229 South Ransom street, and at 10:30 from the St. Patrick’s Catholic church. Her son, the Rev. E.J. Shepherd of Burlington, will officiate at the solemn funeral mass, assisted by the Rev. Paul Albers, as deacon of the mass, and the Rev. Joseph Pound and sub-deacon, and the Rev. W.V. Snell master of ceremonies. The body will be taken to the residence at 3:30 p.m. Saturday from the Moroney funeral home. Members of General Shields council No. 888 Knights of Columbus will meet at their home on West Third street at 7:30 p.m. Sunday and go in a group to the residence to recite the rosary. They will be joined by the Hibernians and members of the Altar and Rosary society. Mrs. Shepherd’s daughter Sister Paulita, arrived this morning from Dunlap, and her son Corporal Robert L. Shepard will arrive Sunday night from Camp White, Oregon. The pallbearers will be John Tray, Joseph Lennon, Michael Carr, Henry Denebrink, William Wilson and Francis Brothers.

At the funeral mass held for Mrs. Claude A. Shepherd Monday morning at St. Patrick’s church, the Rev. E.J. Shepherd officiated with the Rev. Paul Albers serving as deacon the Rev. M.A. O’Connell, Keokuk; the Rt. Rev. Msgr. W.E. Cullinan, Burlington, the Rev. P.V. Duggan, Farmington; the Rev. Paul C. Wetzstein, East Pleasant Plaine; the Rev. J. S. Peters, Keokuk, the Rev. J.A. Hebenstreit, West Point; the Rev. C.S. Kemper, Keota; the Rev. H.V. Bongers, Ft. Madison; the Rev. Francis Schaefers, St. Paul; the Rev. H.E. O’Conner, Lost Nation; the Rev. J.A. Wagner, West Point; the Rev. E. P. Seidel, Ft. Madison; the Rev. Callustus Krame, Burlington; the Rev. Patrick J. Prior, Burlington; the Rev. J.J. Welsh, Mt. Pleasant; the Rev. J. Sister Mary St. Jane, B.V.M. both of Burlington; Miss Mary Cronin, Mrs. Martin Stafford, Mrs. Roy Martin and Mrs. Harry McKinstry, all of Keokuk.
