John W. Shaffer, 53, of Ottumwa, died at 1:50 a.m. Monday at the veteran’s hospital, Des Moines, after an illness of two years. Mr. Shaffer is survived by four half-brothers, B.J. Williamon of Ottumwa; Louis and Luke Williamon of Fremont, and G.J. Williamon in the Army Air Corps and by two half-sisters, Mrs. Marie Fuller of Des Moines and Mrs. Melvin Van Hoeweling of Pella. The body was removed to the Community Funeral parlors in Ottumwa where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in charge of the Rev. A.D. McClure. V.F.W. members will serve as pallbearers and the American Legion firing squad will attend burial services in the legion plot of the Ottumwa cemetery.
