Veteran South Side Druggist Is Dead (1874-1943)

E. J. Nordgren, a druggist in south Ottumwa for the past 40 years, died at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday at his home, 320 Chester avenue, following an illness of several months. He was 69 years old. He was born in Ottumwa June 27, 1874, the son of Andrew and Johanna Nordgren and was proprietor of a drug store at Lovilia for nine years and a store in New Sharon for four years. His present store is at 837 Church street. Survivors include his wife, Nellie; a sister, Mrs. Esther Larson, Ottumwa and two brothers, Gust Nordgren, Agency and David Nordgren, Tacoma, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mrs. Emma Olson in 1939, and a brother, Alfred Nordgren, in 1941.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson funeral chapel conducted by the Rev. C.R. Reed of the Willard Street Methodist church. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery. Pallbearers will be Leo Bongers, George Smith, Harold Anderson, Keith Zellers, Bernard Toole and Alex Stewart.
