Herman Cravatzo Dies At Age 83
Herman J. Cravatzo, 83, of route 1, died at 9:45 a.m. today at the home of his daughter Mrs. Charles W. Wilson of 445 South Willard street. He was born in Germany November 3, 1859, the son of Robert and Bridget Cravatzo and came to the United States in 1886, immediately locating in Albia where he lived for four years before coming to Ottumwa. He was a butcher by trade but worked for the Milwaukee railroad for the last 19 years, retiring three years ago. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic church and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Cravatzo, three sons and two daughters, Mrs. Lena Wilson and Miss Celia Cravatzo, both of Ottumwa. Henry Cravatzo of South Gate, California, Carl Cravatzo and Louis Cravatzo, both of Ottumwa. He has one brother Louis Cravatzo in Germany, but has had no word from his for the last seven years. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 8:30 from the Johnson funeral chapel and at 9 o’clock from the St. Patrick’s Catholic church where a requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Father T. C. Donohoe. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Members of St. Patrick’s church will meet at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson funeral chapel to recite to rosary.
