Bert Terhune Dies; Burlington Engineer.
Bert Terhune, 64, of 411 North Court street, an engineer on the Burlington Zephyr, dropped dead in the yard back of his home at 1:15 p.m. today. Mr. Terhune had been working regularly, and was not suffering from any illness, according to members of the family. The attending physician said that death was due to a heart attack. He was born in Boscobel, Wisconsin February 9, 1878. He entered the employee of the Burlington at Albia as and engine watchman, June 16, 1898. He transferred to fireman September 1, 1899. Mr. Terhune had been a engineer since March 24, 1904, and had run the Denver Zephyr through Ottumwa for several years. Funeral services for Bert Terhune will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Lester Jay funeral home, in charge of the Rev. John R. Estes. Burial will be in the Memorial Lawn cemetery. Mr. Terhune 64, of 411 North Court street, a Burlington railroad engineer, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon in the yard of his home. Surviving are his wife, Bertha, two daughters, Mrs. H.A. Weber of Davenport and Mrs. B. Greenman of Bucyrus, Ohio; two sons George of Flora, Illinois and William of Washington D.C.; two sisters Mrs. E.E. Clark Ottumwa and Mrs. H.G. Bancroft, San Antonio and two grandchildren. He was a member of the First Baptist church, Ottumwa Lodge No. 16 Clinton Chapter, Ottumwa council. Malta Commandry, and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
