John F. Canfield, 83, Resident Of Bidwell For Many Years.
John Francis Canfield, 83, of 512 South Davis street, died at his home at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The son of Henry and Charlotta Chisman Canfield, he was born at Aurora, Indiana, December 28, 1858. He came to Iowa June 2, 1866 at the age of 7, living in the vicinity of Bidwell until 1906. He moved to Nebraska, returning to Iowa in 1929, and had lived in Ottumwa practically all the time since. He married Lillie M. Stringham December 12, 1886, at Kellerton, Iowa., She survives him. Also surviving are four sons, Palmer Canfield of Erickson, Nebraska, Leslie of Long Beach, Milo of Burbank, California and Harold of Terminal Island, California; four daughters; Mrs. Lela Schmidt, of Ord, Nebraska, Mrs. Bessie Timmerman, Mrs. Josephine Johnson and Mrs. Dorotha Geseking of Ottumwa; 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Hugh. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. from the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. E.M. Boyer of the East End Christian church. Burial will be in the Chisman cemetery.
