Retired Ottumwa Grocer Dies At 68
W.E. Cottrell Operated Store For 30 Years
William E. Cottrell, 68-year-old retired Ottumwa grocer, died at his home 414 North Adella street, Friday at 3 p.m. Mr. Cottrell a lifetime resident of Wapello county, operated a grocery store on Richmond avenue about 30 years, retiring five years ago. He was born in Wapello county June 8, 1872, the son of James and Rachel Cottrell. He moved to Ottumwa 35 years ago. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal church. Surviving are a brother, James F. Cottrell of Blakesburg, and a sister, Mrs. F.M. Abernathy of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline in 1937. Short services for William E. Cottrell who died at his home 414 North Adella street, Friday will be held in Johnson's funeral chapel Thursday at 2 p.m. and at 2:30 p.m. in the Trinity Episcopal church, conducted by the Rev. Louis H. Matheus. Burial will be in the Ottumwa cemetery.
