Native Of Wapello County Dies At 73
William "Bill" Soots, 73, of 115 South Ford street, died at his home at 3:30 a.m. Sunday. He was the son of Walter and Elizabeth Soots, born in Wapello county, February 10, 1868. He had lived in this county all of his life, and in Ottumwa for the past 30 years. He was a member of the Chillicothe Methodist church and of the I.O.O.F. lodge No. 9 in Ottumwa. Surviving are his wife, Luella; two sons. E.E. Soots and C.U. Soots , both of Ottumwa; a daughter, Mrs. P.J. Pentzer of Ottumwa, 11 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Francis Stevens of Knoxville also survives. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Johnson funeral chapel with the Rev. Albert Peterson in charge. Burial well be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Chillicothe. Odd Fellow lodge services will be held at the chapel. Pallbearers will be Floyd Miller, Ray DeGrofft, Glen Morris, Dwight Garrison, Art Dimmitt and Pete Hissink. Ralph Perkins will serve as chaplain for the Odd Fellows service.
