F.J. McNamara, Rail Vet, Dies
Worked For Milwaukee 56 Years
Frank J. McNamara 79, retired Milwaukee railroad engineer, died suddenly this morning at his home 728 West Second street. He was born September 13, 1862, at Filmore, but had lived in Ottumwa for 35 years. McNamara was prominent in Masonic work, having been a member of Ottumwa lodge No.16 A.F. & A.M. Clinton chapter No. 9 R.A.M. Ottumwa council No. 31 R.S.M. Malta Commandery No. 31 K.T. and the Kaabs Temple of Shriners at Davenport. He took employment with the Milwaukee as a fireman in September of 1881, and retired with pension as an engineer June 24, 1937, having worked with the railroad for 56 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Survivors include a daughter, Lillian McNamara of Ottumwa and a sister, Mrs. M.E. Campbell of Cedar Rapids. The body was removed to the Lester Jay funeral home pending arrangements.
