Victim Of Motorcycle Crash Dies
Injuries sustained July 4, in a motorcycle accident proved fatal to 32-year-old Kermit Boatman, Ottumwa mechanic at 4 a.m. today at Ottumwa hospital. His home was on South Walnut avenue. The young man had suffered a skull fracture and died without regaining complete consciousness. The mishap occurred on highway No. 63 about a quarter of a mile south of the city limits. He was said to have been en route to visit his sister near Floris when he lost control of the machine and was thrown to the concrete pavement. Boatman was the son of Ulyses and Frances Boatman and was born in Ottumwa, July 7, 1909. He lived here practically all his life, and in recent years has worked in auto repair garages. He was a member of the "13" Motorcycle club. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Irvin Swinney of Bloomfield route 9, and Mrs. Vernie Harnden of Des Moines; and a stepfather, Joseph Kinnamon of Ottumwa. His father died in 1917 and his mother in 1933. Funeral services for Kermit Boatman 32, Ottumwa, who died at Ottumwa hospital early Friday of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident July 4, will be at Johnson's funeral chapel at 9 a.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. L.R. Hudson of the Bloomfield Christian church. Burial will be in the Savannah cemetery, 10 miles south of Bloomfield. Pallbearers will be: Darwin Musselman, Walter Davitt, Leonard Stater, Edward Collier, Charles Bierce and Archie Black.
