Mrs. Sylvia Annie Simmons, 55, wife of Jack Simmons, 625 Morris street, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ernest Gruwell, 701 South Sheridan avenue, today at 7:55 a.m. She was the daughter of William and Rebecca Waddle and was born August 11, 1881, near Floris. She had lived in Ottumwa for the last 16 years. Surviving are her husband; daughters, Mrs. William Middleton of Chicago and Mrs. Ernest Gruwell of Ottumwa; sons Vernon and Leo Simmons of Ottumwa and Roscoe Simmons of Chicago; 15 grandchildren; brothers Clem Waddle in Canada and James Waddle of Agency; sisters Mrs. Ed West of West Grove, Mrs. Mary Simmerman of Chariton and Mrs. Roy Griffen of Douds. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Betty Lou. Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and at 2 p.m. in the Open Bible church, Jefferson and Second streets, conducted by the Rev. L.E. Welshons, pastor. Burial will be in Fiedler cemetery. The body is at Johnson's funeral chapel and will be taken Wednesday afternoon to the daughter's home, 701 South Sheridan avenue.
