Roy Rickert, 88, of Douds, died at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Roy Rickert

Roy Rickert, 88, of Douds, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa.

Visitation with family present opens at 9:30 Tuesday, prior to the service.

Memorials to the family may be left at the funeral home or mailed to 14690 Route V-64, Douds 52551.

Mr. Rickert was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Cedar, the son of J. Howard and Mary Funk Rickert. He married Vera L. Lundquist June 2, 1954, in First Lutheran Church in Fairfield.

He moved with is family as a youth to a farm in Chequest Township between Douds and Troy.

He graduated from Troy High School.

He farmed the family farm as well as working many years at Iowa Malleable Iron Company in Fairfield.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Debra Rickert of Ottumwa; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, keith Rickert; one daughter, Carol Rickert; one brother, William Rickert; and one sister, Eleanor Rysdam.
