Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” Saturday, January 7, 1922:
FALL FATAL TO BELGER
MAN WHO WAS TRIMMING TREES SUCCUMBS AT HOSPITAL TO INJURIES
David Lee Belger, an employe of the city, who fell from a tree at Washington and Fourth streets about 2:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon, died in Ottumwa hosiptal [sic] an hour later. Mr. Belger fell while climbing down from the tree.
Internal hemorrhages and a fractured skull are given as the cause of death. Mr. Belger was born November 21, 1873. He lived at 438 South Davis street.
His widow Martha survives, also the following children: Stephen A., Madge R., Paul R., Chester B., and Opal E., all at home. Mrs. Sarah Duncan of Ottumwa is his sister and Stephen W. Belger of Buffalo, Mo., his brother. He was a member of M.W.A. No. 1839 at Eddyville.
The funeral will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon at the house with Rev. U.E. Burroughs of the Finley Avenue Baptist church in charge. Burial will take place in Shaul cemetery.
