March 31, 2014, Mon., Pg. 6Robert E. Nichols, 85, of Brighton died at his home early Sunday, march 30, 2014.
A funeral is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with the Rev. Ryan Meader officiating. Burial will be in Ollie Cemetery.
No visitation is planned.
Memorials for Hospice Compassus of Cedar Rapids can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 607 W. Fountain St., Brighton 52540.
Gould Funeral Home is handeling the arrangements.
Mr. Nichols was born May 21, 1928, in Winfield, the son of Lawrence H. and Bertha E. Calhoun Nichols. He married Frances Ann Paxton March 12, 1947, in Sigourney.
Mr. Nichols grew up on the farm and attended Ollie schools. He worked at The Dexter Company foundry in Fairfield as a furnace cupola operator and a core machine operator.
Survivors include: his wife; one son, Dwight Nichols and wife Bonnie of Decorah; six daughters, Dolores Williams and husband Bernard of Jackson, Tenn., Donna Nesja and husband David of New Auburn, Wis., Debra Wagamon and partner Steve Kindred of Grace Hill, Denise Stout and husband Doug of Pahrump, Nev., Dorene Schoolen and husband Robert of Coppock and Diane Rorech and husband William of Laurel Hill, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, William Nichols; and one sister, Erma Green of Panhandle, Texas.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; two sons, Duane and David; one infant granddaughter; one infant great-granddaughter; and wto brothers, Lawrence and Ellis.
