Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” December 23, 1972:

Otis D. Lindsey, 72, Route 6, died today at 2:15 a.m. at the Ottumwa Hospital. He had been an employe of John Morrell & Co. for 39 years prior to his retirement in 1965.

He was born Jan. 20, 1900, at Coatesville [sic], Mo., to Emery and Jennie Wheatley Lindsey. He had lived in Wapello County for over 50 years. He attended the Gospel Chapel.

He married Lillian Campbell on Oct. 30, 1918, in Putnam County, Mo. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Bernard of Newton and Delmar of Ottumwa; two daughters, Mrs. Sylvia Grooms of Ottumwa and Mrs. Genevieve Vannoy of Montezuma; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and one granddaughter.

The service will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. P.T. Dobson of the Calvary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Shaul Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Vannoy, John Grooms, Earl Shoafstall, Bernard Lindsey Jr., Jerald Vanden Hoek, Rex Williams and Robert Miller. A memorial fund has been established payable to the Gideon’s International.
