Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” March 6, 1944:

Clarence H. Ruby, 39, of 1922 Mabel street, died at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Ottumwa hospital. He was born March 21, 1904, in Keokuk county, the son of Daniel and Osie Ruby. He had lived in Ottumwa for the past 21 years and had been an employe of John Morrell & Co. for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lola Ruby and two children, Clarence, Jr. and Donna. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Hale Majors, Mrs. J.M. Smith, Mrs. Paul McElroy, Mrs. Steve Pappaducas, Mrs. Ira Ryan, LeRoy Ruby, and Arthur Ruby, all of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Wade Coble of Hedrick. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Mildred Ruby, who died in 1935, and by one sister and two brothers.

The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel pending completion of funeral arrangements.

“RUBY SERVICES,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” March 7, 1944:

Funeral services for Clarence H. Ruby, 1922 Mabel street, who died at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Ottumwa hospital, will be held at the Johnson funeral chapel at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in charge of the Rev. Lester Shields, pastor of the Church of God. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.

The casket will be taken to the Ruby residence at 5 p.m. today and will be returned to the chapel at 12 o’clock, noon, Wednesday. Among other survivors is Mr. Ruby’s stepfather, Pearl Roland, of Ottumwa.

Pallbearers will be Carl Paris, Denzil Major, Dave George, Max Gavin, Bernard Jones and John Gilroy.
