Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” July 15, 1955:

Death Comes at 64 To C.L. Shoopman

Clarence L. Shoopman, 64, Ottumwa route 5, died at the Ottumwa hospital at 7 a.m. today.

Born January 22, 1891, in Pittsburg, Kan., he was the son of Lafayette and Lola Mae Christy Shoopman. He had been a resident of Wapello County 34 years and was an employe in the mechanical department of John Morrell and Co. over 30 years. He was a member of the Quarter Century club at Morrell’s.

His marriage to Paralee Lang took place November 14, 1911, at Floris, Ia. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Harold of Des Moines, one daughter, Mrs. Helen Jackson of Ottumwa, one sister, Mrs. Estella Hanks of Torrington, Wyo.; four grandchildren; one stepbrother, Willie Hawkins of Bloomfield; 10 half-brothers, Cecil Hawkins of Los Angeles, Calif., Granville Hawkins of Arkansas City, Kan., Bud Hawkins of Des Moines, Glen Hawkins and Clyde Hawkins, both of Ottumwa, Elzie Shoopman and Henry Shoopman, both of Thermopolis, Wyo., Charles Shoopman in Montana, Floyd Shoopman in Oregon, and Claude Shoopman in Washington; seven half-sisters, Mrs. Etta Overturf of Columbus, Neb., Mrs. Goldie Hallbick of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Minnie Miller of Broomfield, Colo., Mrs. Clarice Waggy and Mrs. Purl Dunn, both of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Alma Pankowsky of Northport, Neb., and Mrs. Ellen Hutchinson of Orville, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepfather, James Hawkins, and one brother.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of Pastor Arnold Nelson of the Munterville Lutheran church. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Clarence Heckart, Marvin Overturf, Larval Hawkins, Jerry Hawkins, Larry Hawkins, and Delphian Bales.
