Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” December 24, 1958:

Geo. Ancell Dies; Broke Hip Dec. 12

George Henry Ancell, 87, of 1221 Jay street, died at 6:40 a.m. today at Ottumwa hospital.

He had been removed to the hospital December 12 with a hip fracture, caused by a fall on ice in the yard at his home.

The son of Edward F. and Nancy McCleery Ancell, he was born October 5, 1871. He resided in Ottumwa the past 42 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Letha Clark, Genesco, Ill., and Mrs. Freda Pickrell, Quincy, Ill.; three sons, Charles Ancell, Quincy, Ill., and Eugene and John D. Ancell, both of Ottumwa; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ann Sigler, Fremont, and a brother, Charles Ancell, Rockport, Ill.

His wife, Anna, preceded him in death on April 25, 1949.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. W.B. Friend, pastor of First Assembly of God church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.
