One of the Gold Star Mothers
who took the trip to the battle-
grounds of the World war in 1930,
Mrs. Lulu Neff, 410 Burrhus
street, died at 3:30 a. m. today at
her home. She was born in 1869.
A resident of Ottumwa for more
than fifty years and wife of L. C.
Neff, long-time Ottumwa grocer,
Mrs. Neff was one of two local
Gold Star Mothers chosen for the
pilgrimage to the scene of the
death of the mothers' sons. Mrs.
A. L. Moser was the other. They
made the trip together.
Mrs. Neff was a member of D.
of U. V. tent No. 12, president of
the local Gold Star Mothers, a
member of the auxiliary of the
Sons of Union Veterans, No. 10,
the American Legion auxiliary
and the Willard Street Methodist
Episcopal church.
Surviving are her husband, L.
C. Neff; one daughter, Mrs. Freda
Kiser of Indianapolis, Ind., and a
brother, Harry Graves of Decatur.
A son, Velman Neff, preceded her
in death. He was killed in action
during the war.
Funeral services will be held at
2 p. m. Monday at the Reese fu-
neral chapel, conducted by the
Rev. A. P. Keast, assisted by the
Rev. Luther Childs, Centerville,
past commander of the Sons of
Veterans. Burial will be in Shaul
cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be
Mrs. Addie Jones, Mrs. Anna Bart-
lett, Mrs. Lillian Meier, Mrs.
Avainell Harker, Mrs. Nellie Eb-
bert and Mrs. Mattie Swanson.
Active pallbearers will be Mrs.
Nellie Timmons, Mrs. Eva Coker,
Mrs. Blanche Day, Miss Edna
Swanson, Mrs. Helen Hancock and
Mrs. Ada Baum.
