Obituary From “Ottumwa Tri-Weekly Courier,” Tuesday, May 18, 1915:

INJURY TO MAN PROVES FATAL

JOSEPH CROW STRUCK BY TRAIN, SUCCUMBS AT THE OTTUMWA HOSPITAL SUNDAY.

Joseph Crow passed away Sunday afternoon at 3:15 at the Ottumwa hospital from injuries received May 8, when struck by a train at the foot of Wapello street. He was 73 years of age.

Crow was supposed to have been struck by a train while walking on or near the tracks, his right leg being cut off below the knee, and he suffered other injuries. He is survived by eleven children, Mrs. Dora D. Gideon, Coneville; Marcus Brown, Muscatine; Easton Crow, Ottumwa; Mrs. Clara Gideon, Coneville; Mrs. Laura Snook, Ottumwa; Davison Crow, Eldon; Mrs. Addie Sickels, Ottumwa; Mrs. Louis Snoddy, Waterloo; Phillip and J.R. Crow, Ottumwa, and Mrs. Emma Wilbank, of Ottumwa, also 47 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:15 o’clock form the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Laura Snook, 622 West Mill street, and at 2 o’clock from the Davis street Christian church, conducted by Rev. Isaac Bussing. Interment will be made in Shaul cemetery.
