Sept. 30, 2003Alice E. McCreery, 93, of Jacksonville, Ill., died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2003, at Modern Care Convalescent Center in Jacksonville, Ill.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. Burial will be in Diamond Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held after noon Wednesday at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with the family present from 5-7 p.m.
Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church or the Nursing Scholarship Fund at Modern Care Convalescent Center. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.airsman-hires.com
Mrs. McCreery was born Nov. 26, 1909, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Earl H. and Ervil Wilson Apley. She married Waldo M. McCreery Oct. 13, 1929, in Ottumwa. He died March 1, 1984.
Mrs. McCreery was a homemaker. She attended business college in Iowa. During the busy holiday season, she helped her husband at J.C. Penney and Deppes Department stores which he managed in Jacksonville.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, where she taught Sunday school. She had been an active member and office holder with the Jacksonville-MacMurray Civic Music Association and would pick up performers in St. Louis. Her pastimes include playing bridge knitting and fishing in Canada.
Survivors include one daughter, Evelyn Mason of Jacksonville; two grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Roy Mason; and two brothers, Charles W. Apley and Earl D. Apley.
The body will arrive in Ottumwa at12:55 p.m. Thursday and will be taken to the Johnson Funeral Home.
*Her parents and sibblings are buried at Burns Cemetery of Chillicothe.
