FUNERAL TUESDAY
Remains of L. Dudgeon Will Be Laid to Rest in Competine Cemetery Tomorrow. Hedrick, Jan. 23. Special. The funeral of L. Dudgeon, the well-known citizen of this town who died Saturday morning, will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at the Hedrick Baptist church. The Rev. Mr. Byram will be in charge. Thee interment will be made in the Competine cemetery.

L. DUDGEON IS DEAD
Wealthy and Influential Citizen of Hedrick Passed Away This Morning.
Hedrick, Jan. 21.—(Special)—L. Dudgeon, aged 53 years, one of Hedrick’s wealthiest and most influential citizens, passed away at 9 o'clock this morning. Mr. Dudgeon had more business interests in Hedrick than any other man, had held more public offices and was loved by everyone who knew him. He conducted a grocery and hardware store, was a heavy stock holder in the Hedrick Savings bank and owned the Hedrick Telephone Company. He was president of the Hedrick school board. His son, Prof. Winfield Dudgeon, member of the faculty of Central University at Pella, and his daughter, Miss Millie Dudgeon, a student of at the same college, were at the bedside when death summoned their father. Funeral announcement will be given later.

DUDGEON FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY
SERVICES FOR HEDRICK MAN ARE LARGELY ATTENDED
OTTUMWAN PRESENT.
Hedrick, Jan. 25.—The Dudgeon funeral was held at the Baptist church Tuesday at if o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev.'s F. N. Byram of Missouri Valley, Iowa and John L. Beyl, president of Central university of Pella. The remains were laid to rest in the Competine cemetery. A large number of friends extend their sincerest sympathy to the bereaved relatives. The telephone office was closed from 10 a. m., until 4 p. m., and all the business houses were closed during the funeral. The pallbearers were Messrs. Bowers, Chadwick, Young, Owens, Wilson and Gimble, all employees. E. E. England of Ottumwa was among the out of town friends at the funeral.
Born In 1857. Mr. Dudgeon was born Feb. 10, 1857 in Knox County, Ohio, and died at his home in Hedrick, January 21, 1911. He moved with his parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Dudgeon, to Iowa in 1865 and settled in Competine township, Wapello, county. August 5, 1882, he was married to Mary E. Scott. To this union were born two children, Winfield S. and Millie E., who were at his bedside when death summoned their father. In the spring of 1907 the family moved to Hedrick where Mr. Dudgeon resided until his death. The deceased was one of Hedrick's wealthiest and most influential citizen's, having an interest in many businesses. He was a member of the Baptist church, an earnest Christian worker, and was loved by all who knew him. Especially will he be missed by his employees, for whom he always had a pleasant word. The deceased is survived by his wife, two children and five sisters and two brothers, namely, Mrs. Minerva Helton Guthrie. Okla., Mrs. Rose Case Gilner, Neb. Mrs. Jane Herman, Farson Mrs. Lydia Phelps, Trumbull, Neb. Mrs. Eleanor Coffey, Whitfield, Kas. C. F. Dudgeon, Lake Arthur, LA. and all his near relatives were present to attend the funeral except Mrs. Lydia Phelps, who was unable to come and L. A. Dudgeon. Mr., Dudgeon's business interests are as follows: Hardware and Implement Co., East Side Grocery store, sole owner of Hedrick Telephone Co., interested in First National bank, Hedrick State bank, Linby Savings bank and the General store at Linby, besides his farming and horses. He owned a number of business buildings.
