WAS HELD YESTERDAY CAME TO WAPELLO CO. IN 1852.
The interring of the remains of Peter Kurtz in the family lot in the Chillicothe cemetery yesterday, marked the passing of one of the oldest settlers of Wapello County. Mr. Kurtz came to this county in 1852, settling on a farm one and one-half miles north of Chillicothe, where he resided up to a few weeks before his death. His fifty-eight years residence in the city made him one of the early pioneers. The deceased passed away Wednesday at the home of his son Frank Kurtz near Christianburg. The services were held at the residence yesterday, conducted by Rev. G. W. Barber of the Chillicothe Methodist Episcopal church. A large funeral cortege accompanied the remains to the cemetery. The deceased was born in Little York, Pa., December 30, 1816, and was 94 years of age at the time of his death. When about thirteen years old he moved with his parents to West Virginia. He was married to Miss Lora H. Preston, in Hampshire County, Virginia in 1840. They came to Wapello County in 1852. His wife died nineteen years ago. To this happy union of sturdy eastern people were born twelve children, five of whom survive their father.
