OBITUARY.
Death of a Pioneer.
Mrs. Anna E. Steinhoff was born at Wettesinger in Furhesten Germany, Sept. 15, 1823 and died at the home of her daughter Mrs. G. W. Shields at Torrington, Wyoming, January 2, 1911, age 87 years, 3 months and 18 days. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Quada both lived and died in Germany. She came to America in 1853. On April 19, 1854 she was united in marriage to Frederick Steinhoff of Bentonsport, Iowa, at St. Louis Mo. After their marriage they returned to Bentonsport, where they resided for a number of years. They came to Ottumwa, Iowa, where they lived on a farm until the death of Mr. Steinhoff which occurred February 22, 1891, Mrs. Steinhoff has made her home with her daughter Mrs. Sophia Shields. She was the mother of four children, one of whom died in infancy. The three who remain to mourn the loss of a devoted mother are Louis Steinhoff and Mrs. Henry Renfrew of Ottumwa, and Mrs. G. W. Shields of Torrington, Wyo., at whose home she departed this life. The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church and during her long life was a faithful wife and mother. She was one whose faith in God continued until she received the message to come home and rest. Funeral services were held from the home of her son, corner or Finley and Moore streets, conducted by Rev. Jonathan Lee, pastor of the South Ottumwa Baptist church, assisted by Rev. Geo. Bergin, pastor of the Brethren church. The singing was by a ladies quartet from the Baptist church. Interment in the Zion cemetery, south of the city.—Contributed.
