BABY DIES IN ARMS OF MOTHER
GALE, INFANT SON OF MR. AND MRS. RALPH COWAN, PASSES AWAY SUDDENLY.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cowan, 508 South Ward Street, are sadly bereaved over the sudden death of their three months-old son, Gale Cowan, which occurred last evening about 6 o'clock while the parents were returning from the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wilford, southeast of Ottumwa, where they had been spending the day. In returning to the city the little child began to fret, but quieted down and the parents thought that the little one had fallen asleep. When they unwrapped the infant at their home, they found the baby dead, although the body was still warm. Dr. A. W. Slaught, county coroner was summoned and after investigating, found that the baby's death had been caused by an abscess in the head. He decided that no inquest was necessary. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 o'clock from the residence, conducted by Rev. Hiram Baker. The remains will be interred in the Mclntire cemetery.
