The last sad rites over the remains of Mrs. Nancy Houk, wife of Elisha Houk, a pioneer of Wapello county, who passed away Saturday, were held this morning at 11 o'clock from the residence three miles west of the city and from the Ormanville church at 12:30 o'clock. Rev. S. Isaac Elder of the Davis Street Christian, church conducted the services. Interment was made In the Ormanville cemetery.

Nancy Elkin Houk was born in the state of Kentucky Sept. 17, 1847 and died at her home west of Ottumwa on
Dec. 10, 1910, aged 63 years 2 months and 33 days. Early in life, she with her parents moved to the state of Indiana and from there to Iowa, moist of Tier life being spent in this section' of the state. She was united in. marriage to Elisha Houk February 5th, 1865 and became the mother of ten children, five girls and five boys. One of the daughters died a number of years ago. The living children are: Mrs. Louisa Overturf, of Davis County, Iowa. Mrs. Clara Davis of Ottumwa, Mrs. Nettie Bennett of Queen City, Mo., Mrs. Mira Kendall of Ottumwa, Adam S. Houk of Davis county, John H. and George C., who live near Ottumwa. Bert and Ben F. live at home with their parents. She became a follower of the lowly Nazarene- many years ago. She placed her membership in the Davis Street Christian church February 10, 1910 and was a member of that church at the time of her death. Her life was consistent with her profession and she died in the faith she had embraced. She was a woman who gave much of her life to the care of the sick and helpless. The severe cold resulting in the fever that caused her death being contracted in her diligent watch at the bedside of another. She had made many friends in her earthly life and a large number of
these were present at the last sad rites out of respect for her who had lived with so much neighborly devotion among them. The funeral services were conducted by S. Isaac Elder, pastor of the Davis Street Christian church, from the Ormanville church Monday Dec. 12 at 12:30 p. m. Interment in the Ormanville cemetery.
