Elsie Elizabeth Davis, 76, of 429 North Clay, died at 8:20 a.m. today at her home. She had been in failing health for eight years. She was the daughter of John and Emma Hawk Bruder and was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on February 13, 1897. She had lived in Ottumwa since 1920. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was married to John C. Davis Sr. on June 8, 1918 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, he survives. Also surviving are two sons, John C. Davis Jr. of Cedar Rapids and Paul F. Davis of Palatine, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Carl Bernhardt of New Tripoli, Pennsylvania and three brothers, Lester Bruder of Allentown, Warren Bruder of California and Arthur Bruder of Allentown; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Robert, in World War II, and three brothers. Funeral services for Mrs. Davis, who died Tuesday morning at her home, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Greg Miller celebrating a Requiem Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Norbert Davis, Bill Davis, Henry Berrier, Larry Bottorff, Paul Tennyson and Harold Bruch. The rosary will be recited Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Jay Funeral Home.
