OTTUMWA — Gerold D. W. Bone, 70, of Peel Ark., entered his eternal life on Aug. 12, 2009, at The Twinn Lakes Nursing and Rehab Center in Flippin Ark. He was born Aug. 14, 1938, in Selma, Iowa, to Herbert and Helen Beghtol Bone. He married Laura Stephenson on Aug. 14, 1987, in Ottumwa, Iowa. He worked at Morrell Meat Packing plant until it closed. He was president of AFL-CIO, Local P1 Union. He was very active in the Democratic Party all his life. Working mans Christmas Party for many years. He had played the drums with multiple bands in his younger days. He worked as a Wapello County Sheriff Deputy. Later he went to work for John Deere Ottumwa Works and retired there after 25 years in 1998. He and his wife owned and operated Blackhawk Kennel in Ottumwa for 17 years and retired to Peel, Ark. in 2005. He was one of the main organizers for the Iowa Pet Breeders Association. He was very active throughout the Midwest in the pet industry. He lived most of his life in the Ottumwa area. He is survived by his wife, Laura Bone of Peel, Ark.; son, Vern Bone (Jennifer) of Lancaster, Mo.; two daughters, Diana Craney of Lancaster, Mo., and Lisa Albright of Ottumwa, Iowa; five grandaughters, Rachael Renfrew (Ryan) of Hillsboro, Ore; Brittany Bone of Hannabal, Mo., Bridgette Craney of Knobnoster, Mo., Kaitlin Craney of Lancaster, Mo., McKenzie Choate of Lancaster, Mo.; one grandson, Blaze VanDorin of Eddyville, Iowa; one great-grandson, Clayton Renfrew of Hillsboro, Ore.; three brothers, Ron Bone (Connie) of Belvedere, Ill., Jerry Bone of Ottumwa, Iowa, Bill Bone (Cindy) of Ottumwa, Iowa; two sisters, Carolyn Ellis (Darrel) of Agency, Iowa and Sharon Jacobs (Terry) of Ottumwa, Iowa.He was preceded in death by his dad, Herbert; mom, Helen; two brothers, Kenny Bone and Robert Bone. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Shrine of Memories Funeral home in Ottumwa. Funeral Services will be given by Rocky Tash SR at 1 p.m. Aug. 22, 2009, at Shrine of Memories Funeral home in Ottumwa. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Craig Cobb, Dennis Hanlon, Tom Hawley, Ken Josserand, Wayne Rupe, John Thomas and Bruce VanDorin. Burial will be in the Resurection Garden at Memorial Lawn Cemetery at a later date with a private ceremony with the immediate family. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Arkansas Federation of Animal Owners.Shrine of Memories Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
