DEATH OF AN OTTUMWA WOMAN INVESTIGATED
Mrs. Bert Hendershott 65 died today of a gunshot wound; which authorities said was apparently self inflicted.

Coronor Gordon Traul, County Attorney Sam Erhardt, and Sheriff Cliff Riley are investigating.

They said that agents of the state bureau of investigation have been asked to assist in the inquiry. An autopsy has been ordered.

Mrs. Hendershott and her husband lived in a new home on the Ottumwa-Bladensburg road about three-quarters of a mile east of Ottumwa hospital.

SEPERATE ROOMS
Sheriff Riley said that about 1:15 a.m. he received a call from Hendershott saying his wife had shot herself. Riley said the two used seperate bedrooms. He had retired at 8:30 p.m. She had remained up watching television. The sheriff said he found Mrs. Hendershott in her bed with a massive wound in the head. A 410 gauge shotgun was beside her with one shot fired. The officer said Hendershott had explained the gun had been kept in the garage. Neither he nor Riley found any note or other indication of intended suicide.

The body was taken to the Traul funeral home. Coronor Traul said it will remain there pending completion of funeral arrangments.

WORKED AT JOLLEYS
Mrs. Hendershott was born in 1889 in Kansas; the daughter of Douglas and Elmira Rolinson. She had lived most of her life in Ottumwa. Her parents; a brother and a son preceded her in death. She was a member of the First Christian church here.

She had worked in the office of Jolley Cleaners for many years; retiring about two years ago.

She is survived by three children from a previous marriage. They are Dick Peppers of Ottumwa, Harold Peppers of Independence, MO., and Mrs. Doris Rabenoid of Montezuma. Also surviving are a sister Mrs. Claud Stephens of 622 Overman St., a brother; Wilbur Rolinson of 1119 Richmond Ave., and a brother Lester Rolinson of Montevideo, Minn. There are seven grandchildren.

FUNERAL MONDAY
The county attorney said he has not yet learned results of the autopsy by the surgeon. He said one question he hopes to clear up is whether or not there might have been reflex movement of the woman's hands after the shot was fired. She was shot in the head. The position of her hands were not near the gun trigger guard.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hendershott will be held monday at 10 a.m. at the First Christian church. The Rev. Donald Gill will be in charge. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Lynch, Reg Wellman, Leo Daniels and Wendell Baum.
