OTTUMWA — Barbara Jean Callender Skinner, 74, of Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away Aug. 3, 2009, at her home with her family and loved ones at her side following her courageous battle with breast cancer.Barbara Grear was born Aug. 27, 1934, to Finess "Trigger" and Gertrude Lundren Grear in Ottumwa, Iowa. She married Rodney G. Skinner June 23, 1979, in Ottumwa.

She had been employed at Standard Kolsman, Riverside and Montgomery Ward's. Barbie was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #114 Auxiliary, Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and O.B. Nelson Unit #3 Auxiliary, where she had served in various offices. Most recently she served as membership secretary, of which she had taken much pride in fulfilling her duties but unfortunately had to relinquish due to her illness.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Rodney; daughter, Dawn (John) Griffin of Avon, Ind.; sons, Dennis Callender of Indianapolis, Ind., and Doug Callender of Ottumwa; grandson, Adam Gruwell; stepgrandsons, Neil, Ben and Nick Griffin; twin stepgreat-grandsons, Sean and Daniel Griffin; "Nannie" to Jessica and Sydney Lynn Rockhold and Stacey Fitzsimmons; and her sister, Linda (Steve) McLain of Ottumwa.She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Grear; and a nephew, Richard Kelly.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Cathy Klobnak officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday.Memorials may be made to Hospice, P.O. Box 1150, Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
