OTTUMWA — Maxine Irene Ryan, 93, of #1 Pennsylvania Place, died at 9:20 a.m. June 27, 2009, at Hospice House.She was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Ottumwa to Henry John and Elma Olney Schwartz. She married Dr. Joseph Philip Ryan Oct. 4, 1941. He preceded her in death Nov. 28, 1998.

She was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation, Altar and Rosary Society, Ottumwa Women's Service League and PEO Chapter HC. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, reading, cross stitching, shopping with her daughters and was an avid White Sox fan.Maxine was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a kind and caring friend to many.Surviving are her four children, Suzanne "Sue" (Lawrence) Williams of East Moline, Ill., Patrick (Sandie) Ryan of Half Moon Bay, Calif., Mike Ryan and Mary (Tom) Matheson of Highland Village, Texas; grandchildren, David (Penny) Williams, Doug (Ellen) Williams, Katie (John) McCurdy, Emily (Sean) Gibson, Adam and Kelsey Currier, Keith and Kyle Matheson; great-grandchildren, Maddie, Meghan, Joe M. Williams, Joseph R., Betsy and Lucy Williams, Jack, Annagrace and Mary Rose McCurdy and Brennan Gibson.She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Kurka and stepsisters, Polly Brothers and Libby Peden.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Bernie Weir officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home. The family will be present from 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Monday. A Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. with a Christian Wake service at 7 p.m. Monday.Memorials may be made to Sisters of Humility, 820 W. Central Park Ave. Davenport, Iowa 52804 or Hospice, 312 E.
