BLAKESBURG — A Celebration of Life luncheon for Paul and Genevieve Blake will be Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Blakesburg Christian Church.

Private burial of cremains will be in Blakesburg Cemetery.Paul Chisman Blake was born Jan. 1, 1916 to Zella and Louis Blake of Blakesburg. After attending elementary and high school in Blakesburg, he graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids and started a life long career as an educator. He received his Masters Degree from Iowa State College in Ames and his Doctorate Degree from Colorado State College of Education in Greeley. He taught in Kirkville and Fernald and was Superintendent in Lovilia and Eddyville. After an assignment with the United Nations Educational, Social and Cultural Organization in 1955, he accepted a position at San Jose State University in San Jose, California and retired from there. He passed away Sept. 13, 2000 at the age of 84.

Genevieve Arlene Deitch was born May 11, 1923 to Clara and Charles Deitch of Kirkville. She graduated from Kirkville High School, in a class of four. Paul and Genevieve met when he was a teacher in Kirkville, married in May 1939 and celebrated 61 years of marriage. Genevieve dedicated her life to being a supportive wife and stay at home mom. She passed away June 2, 2007 at the home of her daughter, Joelen Martinez, at the age of 84.They are survived by two daughters, Linda Mehringer and Joelen Martinez; four grandchildren, Christina, Lisa, Amy and Brent; and five great-grandchildren, Leela, Christopher, Tyler, Cody and Jacob, all of California.Courtesy of Robertson-Jay Funeral Home.
